How to enable Network Load Balancing (NLB) on ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition
prerequisites

  1. the servers are in an array
  2. the interfaces to be load balanced are on the same subnet
  3. only the real ip.addr is currently bound to the interfaces
  4. you are NOT connecting to the ISA server(s) using an ip.addr on the interface to use NLB (because you will be dropped)

steps

  1. Access the ISA Management console
  2. Browse down to Arrays, your array, Configuration, Networks. Right-click Networks.
  3. Click “Enable Network Load Balancing Integration…a wizard will launch
  4. The first thing to do is select the network(s) that will be load balanced. In a web publishing situation, with two interfaces, select the external interface.
  5. Define a virtual ip.addr for this by entering a primary vip, and additional vips as necessary.
  6. Hit next, then finish.

Now, when you go to publish a site, you will be able to choose the vip(s) that you want to use. Be sure that before you begin, any certificates that you will need for https are installed correctly on all array members.
here endeth the lesson ;-)
