Is this really cool, a sign of the end times, or both?

I caught wind of this on the evening news today…a mobile police lab for DUI checkpoints that contains all the forensic lab equipment required to test drivers for intoxication, and the necessary court officers (not sure if that means a judge or magistrate or something else, and I wonder if it includes a public defender) so that court processing can take place on board, kind of johnny on the spot. Here’s a video clip for your entertainment and education.

I think this is brilliant, a sound investment of tax dollars, and an excellent way to help combat driving while intoxicated, but at the same time, I cannot help but be reminded of another of my favourite movies.

It is the third millennium. The world has changed. Climate, Nations, all were in upheaval. the Earth transformed into a poisonous, scorched dessert, known as "The Cursed Earth". The world’s population has crowded into a few Megacities, where it created a violence so powerful, the justice system could not control. Law as we knew it, collapsed. From the decay, rose a new order, a new style of justice enforcers. They were the police, jury and executioner all in one. They were, The Judges. Oh, and, Yay Sequel! Sly’s still got it so they better sign him on.

Am I wrong? Tell me what you think by leaving a comment below…does this or does this not remind you just a little bit of the mobile legal system in place in the dystopian society from “Judge Dredd?”
