P as in pterodactyl

As a follow up to my earlier post about the Geek ABC’s, I wanted to share a little story and some humour with you today. I was on the phone with another engineer, using the ITU spelling alphabet but not making a great deal of progress, when my client walked by and said “P as in pterodactyl.”

Well. to be honest, I had to jump for the mute button because I started to bust out laughing. The sheer ridiculousness of the English language, with so many silent letters, started me thinking about creating an alternate, smart-arsed spelling alphabet, but it didn’t take long to find that The Bare Naked Ladies beat me to the punch. I’d only change R, which of course must be for arrrrrgghh!
