Server 2008 is awesome! I love running a network based on it. However, RDP only carries so many, so far, so having the Admin Tools is critical. Of course, there are some challenges with that.
a) there are no admin tools. Now we have the Remote Server Administration Tools
b) they require Vista
c) they are NOT intuitive to install!
So, here is how to do it.
- Log onto your Vista PC with admin rights.
- Go to this site and download the tools. You will need to validate first.
- Install the tools.
- Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, and select “turn Windows features on or off.”
- Go down that list, and check the box for Remote Server Administration Tools, and click OK, then you can exit out.
- Now, right click the Start button, and choose Properties. You should be on the Start Menu tab, but if you are not, click that tab. Now click Customise.
- Go down to the bottom of that list, and you will now see the “System administrative tools” and choose the option you want.
Viola!
